Whats the hubbub around Huddart?
Tristan
Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 with this expression being part of a new core range that was released in 2018. When Sir William Pulteney decided to build a whole new town near to Wick (in the north or Scotland) I doubt he was under the illusion that the distillery, taking his name, would be a staple to so many whisky drinkers nearly 200 years later. This expression takes its name from the very street where the distillery sits, producing nearly 2 million litres of whisky each year.
Nose
Cherry Cola bottles, rubber bands and apples. There is that wisp of smoke too.
Palette
Lime and Cherry gives way to a spiced bacon enticing palate. The smoke is a bit stronger as though someone down the other end of the beach is having a campfire and you keep getting wafts.
Finish
There is a wonderful mouthfeel of syrup and sticky sweetness. That peat lingers without overpowering and really keeps you wanting another sip.
Overall
Tristan tasted this one and he found it a dram that grew on him. The first few sips made it quite hard to engage with. The rubber on the nose was a bit of a turn off but he just needed to be patient and let it sit for a wee bit longer. Once you get that dram in the mouth it is a very different story. If you take all the great Old Pulteney tasting notes (brine, sea salt, sweet fruits) and then dial that up a notch then this is the bottle for you.
