Seven founding members started Amateur Dram Addicts in 2020 during the first Coronavirus Lockdown in the UK. It was a way for us to develop our own taste for Whisky and so began virtual blind tasting sessions each month. Tristan continues to enjoy leading us on many of our tastings and because it’s a blind tasting, our opinions are based on our senses and not by marketing or price. We’ve had great sessions hosted by other members, Dave and Matt, and also had the privileged to have all types of guests attend over the past few years. From distilleries, whisky clubs, whisky experts and the odd ‘plus one’ events, it’s been a voyage of discovery. We are all learning what we like and dislike and that can only be done by sampling a wide variety side by side, consciously writing what we think about each. We are not wedded to just ‘Scotch’, though we are Smokey Peat head fans… We’ve embraced what the whisky world has to offer, from Australia, Israel, South Africa, Scandinavia, and even Spain! It’s been a great ride so far and as Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey”. Sláinte!
